Dr. Bernhard Maier-Weigt
Bernhard Maier-Weigt, born in Stuttgart, studied law and political science at the Universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg. He received his doctorate from the University of Frankfurt am Main in 1986. After completing his Second State Law Examination he began his career as a freelance attorney in Stuttgart and then worked as in-house counsel and assistant lecturer at the Frankfurt am Main University of Applied Sciences. In the early 1990s, he started working for the Hessian Ministry of Research, with his main focus being on energy services, environmental protection, public procurement law and real estate law. His positions included his appointment as director of the Ministry's Board for the Award of Public Contracts.
At the beginning of 2000, Bernhard Maier-Weigt returned to private practice and continues to focus on the above legal fields. He predominantly advises local authorities and public corporations on energy and public procurement law issues. A further focus of his work is advising clients on aspects of transformation law. Bernhard Maier-Weigt advised the Republic of Cyprus on major energy law reforms in preparation for EU accession and the Republic of Lebanon on establishing a regulatory authority.
