Dr. Andreas Walter, LL.M.
Andreas Walter, born in Frankfurt am Main, studied law and economics at the Universities of Frankfurt, Mainz and Marburg after completing a commercial apprenticeship. During his time at university, he focused on two areas; copyright and media law and on banking and capital markets law. The subject of his thesis was securities-based sale and repurchase agreements in insolvency. He graduated as a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in media and copyright law. He earned his doctorate in law with the distinction “magna cum laude” at the chair of civil law, international private law, comparative law and media law of the Philipps University Marburg with his dissertation “Störerhaftung bei Handeln Dritter” (liability for interference due to third party actions). Andreas Walter’s internship included positions at the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) and an international law firm in the area banking and capital markets law.
Andreas Walter was managing partner of a youth and media culture agency. He also worked for over ten years in an executive function at a media company, where his last position was Director Business Affairs & New Media. In this function, Andreas Walter was for several years a permanent member of the Business Committee of the German Federal Music Industry Association (Bundesverband Musikindustrie e.V.) and the national group of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). For many years, he was chairman of the examination board for event managers of the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Andreas Walter is a lecturer at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (Banking Law and Introduction to German Civil Law) and at the Business Academy for Media, Events and Culture.
He is a member of the Fritz Bauer Institut e.V., the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL), the German Law Society and its working group for banking and capital markets law.
Andreas Walter primarily advises in the area banking and capital markets law, in particular with respect to banking supervision law and securities trading law, as well as in connection with NPL transactions. In addition, he provides advice on media, sport and copyright law issues. He is also a member of the practice group Litigation and advises in the area compliance.
