Schalast strengthens banking law team with Clouth partner

At the beginning of the year, Dr. Jan Ludwig changes from the banking law boutique Clouth & Partner to the Banking & Finance team of Schalast. Dr. Ludwig started his career in the litigation department of Baker & McKenzie. He joined Clouth & Partner as Counsel in 2012.

At Clouth & Partner, Dr. Ludwig primarily represented banks in legal disputes concerning fundamental questions of securities law, failed capital investments and complex financial products. His particular expertise lies in derivatives. Among other things, he advised Erste Abwicklungsanstalt, which handled the derivatives portfolio of the former WestLB, in a number of disputes with municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia up to the Federal Supreme Court (BGH). In addition, he has advised several institutions on the development of their derivatives distribution activities, particularly in light of supervisory law and the MiFID II Directive. He was appointed Partner at Clouth & Partner in 2015.

Schalast's banking practice has grown strongly in recent years. It offers a wide range of advisory services for credit, financial and payment service institutions. In cross-border cases Schalast uses the international network Multilaw. Dr. Ludwig sees enormous opportunities here: "The financial industry is undergoing a major transformation. Especially with a view to digitalization and FinTech, the strategically established consulting practice of Schalast is internationally positioned and optimally prepared for the future." Dr. Andreas Walter, Head of the Practice Group Banking & Finance at Schalast, commented: "I am particularly pleased that we have succeeded in gaining such an experienced, renowned new partner for our team. He will particularly develop our litigation practice in the banking area."
