Dr. Thorsten Voß moves to Schalast
As of 1 July 2020, the renowned banking and securities supervisory law expert Dr. Thorsten Voß joins the Frankfurt office of the business law firm Schalast as a partner. There he will primarily deal with questions of capital market regulation, investment law and the many regulatory issues related to the digitalisation of financial companies and products. A special interface here is the area of FinTech companies. Many of the large FinTechs have already trusted Schalast's Banking & Finance Team around Dr. Andreas Walter for many years. Thorsten Voß has also successfully advised several FinTechs in the past, particularly at the interface with capital market law, for example on the establishment of innovative payment services and regulated business models from the crypto assets and blockchain sector. He is also very much appreciated as author and editor of numerous publications and handbooks, but also as a speaker at high-profile events related to capital markets and supervisory law.
Alexander Gebhard, who as a partner at Schalast is responsible for banking supervisory law, comments: "With the arrival of Thorsten Voss, we can give our supervisory law practice even more qualitative weight. With his special expertise, especially in the area of investment and securities law, we can further develop the complex and innovative financing concepts that we already successfully offer at many interfaces."
At Schalast, Voss joins a rapidly growing Practice Group Banking & Finance, which has built up a full-service approach for banks and other companies in the financial industry over the past few years and advises numerous large and also smaller institutions in addition to the FinTech companies already mentioned. In addition to questions of banking supervisory law and litigation, the practice group deals intensively with financing and its subsequent processing, in particular with restructuring but also with the sale of large loan portfolios. Dr. Andreas Walter, head of the Banking & Finance Practice Group: "We have been somewhat reserved in the capital market and investment law field in recent years and are very happy to have Dr. Thorsten Voß as our dream candidate as a partner."
Dr. Thorsten Voß can look back on a 12-year partner career in leading international and national law firms. His career also includes a stint at the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), where he led the Prospectus Group with established and numerous proceedings for the prosecution of violations of securities trading and other supervisory laws. He will integrate this white collar crime expertise into the litigation and compliance practice of his new team. In addition, the international orientation of Schalast, which is a very active member of the international law firm network Multilaw, fits very well with Voss' business strategy.
"Schalast's outstanding banking and capital markets law practice provides an ideal environment to further develop the business on a highly dynamic and international platform. The tailoring to high-end matters of particularly complex regulatory issues fits my clients' needs as perfectly as the networking of technology and financial law expertise," adds Dr. Thorsten Voß.
