Donald Valbert is a German lawyer and advises national and international clients on copyright, media and intellectual property law issues. He has many years of experience in representing national and international clients in court cases.

Donald Valbert, geboren in Letmathe, studied law and economics at the Universities of Bochum und Bonn. He obtained his doctorate with a thesis on copyright and EU law. After initially working for a commercial law firm, he became an in-house lawyer in the music industry (EMI) in 1982, initially in the legal department. He subsequently established the area Business Affairs, later becoming Director Legal & Business Affairs. His final position before leaving the company was Executive Vice President Legal and Business Affairs Germany Austria Switzerland. During this time he was a member of the Legal Committee of the Federal German Music Industry Association (Bundesverband der deutschen Tonträgerindustrie) and the Advisory Council of the German collecting society Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechte (GVL). After leaving the industry, he worked as a self-employed lawyer and was a founding partner of the national specialist copyright and media law firm Kornmeier Kollegen, which later became Kornmeier und Partner, with which he cooperates as Of Counsel. Since the merger of Kornmeier und Partner with Schalast in October 2016, he has cooperated with Schalast as Of Counsel.

He has been involved in various contractual negotiations for and with famous German and internationally renowned music artists:
- Legal representation and advice in contractual negotiations with the estate of world-famous international artist in the area of film;
- Legal representation and advising of a record producer/artistic producer on the conclusion of a catalogue agreement with video and audio recordings of world-famous artists with an international record company;
- Legal representation and advising of a shareholder during the founding of the music television station VIVA Deutschland;
- Legal representation and advising of composers during the conclusion of an agreement with a public television broadcaster relating to ARD signature tunes;
- Advising an international record company on the conclusion of an agreement with an international label;
- Advising EMI Records International as In-house Counsel on the acquisition of Intercord Schallplatten;
- Provision of advice and support to an international music company in several music piracy test cases before the German Federal Court of Justice (BGH),
- Provision of advice and support to an international music company in several music piracy test cases before the European Court of Justice (ECJ)
- Completion of various due diligence procedures,
- Preparation of various expert opinions for court disputes;
- Legal representation and advising of investors on possible financial and/or entrepreneurial investments in the media sector;
- Legal representation and advising of fine art collectors and sellers.
