Banking & Finance, Litigation

Jan Ludwig is a partner in the Banking & Finance and Litigation & Arbitration practice groups. He above all advises credit and financial services institutions on civil and regulatory law issues. He regularly represents his clients' interests in court.

Since studying law at the Universities of Gießen and Freiburg, Jan Ludwig has focused on banking law issues. He received his doctorate from the chair of Professor Hanno Merkt with a thesis on banking and insurance supervisory law entitled "Corporate Governance at Banks and Insurance Companies". He also worked as a research assistant in the Banking & Finance department of an international commercial law firm.

Jan Ludwig began his career as a lawyer in the Dispute Resolution department of a large commercial law firm. In particular, he represented credit institutions in banking law disputes. Even after his move to a banking boutique in Frankfurt - first as counsel, later as partner - he continued to litigate on fundamental issues of securities law, failed capital investments and complex financial products. His particular expertise lies in derivatives. Among other things, he advised Erste Abwicklungsanstalt, which wound up the derivatives portfolio of the former WestLB, in a series of disputes with municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia up to the German Federal Court of Justice (BGH). In addition, he advised several institutions on the development of their derivatives sales against the background of regulatory law and the MiFID II Directive.

Jan Ludwig is a member of the German Institution of Arbitration. (DIS) and the initiative of young arbitrators "DIS 40".
